Banke Bihari Temple

Banke Bihari Temple stands as arguably the most iconic and visited temple in Vrindavan. The temple is entirely dedicated to Lord Krishna, depicted here in his signature playful, bent posture known as “Tribhang” (three-fold bending). What makes this temple particularly distinctive is the frequently opening and closing curtain, or “Arati Curtain,” which covers the deity. According to local belief and temple tradition, the Lord’s gaze is considered so intensely powerful that it cannot be sustained for long durations, hence the frequent opening and closing of curtains throughout the day. The temple attracts enormous crowds, especially during Janmashtami (Krishna’s birthday) and Holi (the festival of colours), when the celebrations reach extraordinary levels of devotion and festivity.
